UNTYING THE MYSTERIES OF TIED-UNIT WEAVES 1.5 hour lecture, 3 day workshop, 2.5 hr seminar
Through lecture and hands on weaving experience, students will learn and understand the sometimes mysterious Tied-Unit weave systems. Students will weave large samples on their own looms, all of which will be cut and shared with the rest of the class, developing a working notebook of different tied-unit weave systems. The goal is to understand how Tied-Unit weaves work, and how they can be used to the advantage of handweavers.
Intermediate to Advanced. Students *must* understand profile drafting. Students must have a strong foundation in single warp weave systems {tabby, twills, etc.) and fully understand the components of standard drafting. This class is NOT for beginners!
Equipment requirements for students: Each student must have at least an 8 shaft loom. The more shafts the more design possibilities. All looms must be fully functional and equipment must be familiar to students. Students will dress looms to teacher specifications prior to opening of the workshop. No class time will be devoted to preparing looms. Looms will need a lot of heddles on first four shafts (about 50 per shaft)
Materials fee: Extensive Handouts - price to be determined
Room requirements: Room with adequate space for each participant and their equipment. 6 foot tables or equivalent at adequate height for table loom weavers. Comfortable seating for every student. Chalkboard, chalk, erasers and two large table for teacher. Class size limited to 14.
FEE STRUCTURE STANDARD FEES: Workshops - $380.00 per day, 6 teaching hours per day. ½ days of 3 or less hours billed at a flat $200.00. In addition, all ground/air transportation, parking fees, air travel, room, board and shipping of materials to and from venue are to be covered at cost. Air travel will commence from Chicago O’Hare International Airport to destination, with return to same. Estimated transportation expenses (i.e. current lowest fare)
Current all day parking fees at O’Hare, in the outermost, hence least expensive, lot are $32.00 per day. I expect that will increase. |
