UNDERSTANDING
RAYON CHENILLE
Understanding Rayon
Chenille 2.5 hr seminar, 1.5 hr lecture, 3 day workshop
Rayon chenille scares many weavers. Su will help you understand the fiber and
the idiosyncrasies of successfully weaving with it. 3 day workshop includes
students weaving and finishing a rayon chenille scarf on their own looms.
Appropriate weave structures will be discussed; tips for warping and weaving
with chenille, finishing info for both fringes and fabric, uses for chenille
fabrics, and supply resources will all be covered. Students will weave samples,
which will be cut and shared with the entire class, and a working notebook of
chenille designs will be created. If you have always wanted to weave sumptuous
chenille but were afraid to try, this is the workshop for you!! Handouts and
warps will be provided, and a materials fee will be collected at the start of
class to cover the costs of handouts, notebook pages, and any materials teacher
provides. Material fee to be determined by the time conference brochure is to
be printed. Students will receive a supplies and preparation list prior to the
workshop.
Advanced beginner - advanced level. (Students *must know* how to read a draft
and be able to prepare a loom for weaving in one afternoon) It is imperative
students bring a functioning loom they are familiar with. 4 shafts is enough,
but more experimentation and design possibilities exist when 8 or more shafts
are utilized.
Room requirements: Room with adequate space for each participant and their
equipment. 6 foot tables or equivalent at adequate height for table loom
weavers. Adequate seating and lighting. Two large tables, chalkboard, chalk
and erasers for teacher. Good lighting important. Class size limited to 12.
